Procedural writing can take several forms such as recipes, sciences experiments, directions for a map, manuals and procedural texts can take different forms such as brochures, posters or guidebooks.

A text structured as cause and effect explains the results of an action; in another way, it explains why something happened. Cause and effect is a common way to organize information in a persuasive writing mode.  

Unlike procedural structured texts, cause and effect passages usually focus on explaining the reason why something occurs.

The difference between a text written in procedural order and a text written with a cause-and-effect structure is that the first one arranges information in the form of a sequence or process to achieve certain goal, while the second one exposes the relationship between conditions and its consequences.
