How does sedaris' selection of detail in the first paragraph establish a humorous tone in reference to david sedaris's "me talk pretty one day"

He brings tidbits of irony to his narrative, along with the character and circumstance that Sedaris creates.  For example, in the first paragraph, after establishing that he will again be a new student at the age of 41, he reveals all the benefits that come with a student ID: it allows him "a discounted entrance fee in movie theatres, puppet shows, and Festyland, a far-flung entertainment fee for the amusement park.

jenkins wanted the narrator to write a ghost story for his magazine. he wanted the narrator to give the readers a story based on the supernatural. he wanted him to give the readers real 'horror' stories and not the type of live ghosts which he had presented in his earlier stories.
