The theme of the story "The Reefs'' is Hard work always pays off. The theme develops when sophie, the protagonist, discovers that the coral reefs are in danger during a snorkeling trip with her aunt. The college campus setting provided sophie with a laboratory but she's so worried about the reef as soon as she arrives in new York she invest in a lab at her aunt's house. She works tirelessly despite not having her professors support. In the climax While she's Is patiently waiting to present her work to her professors her best friend comes by to support. In the falling action, she presents the project that she had worked so hard on. In the resolution, the scientists loved her presentation. In conclusion, even though her professors tried the bring her down they ended up loving her presentation so all her hard work paid off.
