sports are popular in the United States-
especially among children under the age of
18. According to one study, only 13 percent of
boys and 18 percent of girls between ages 8
and 17 have never joined an organized sports
team of some kind. This means that at least 4
out of every 5 American children play on a
sports team, and many play in two or three
different sports.
Thousands of these young athletes will
suffer-or have already suffered-from a
concussion. A concussion is a traumatic brain
injury, usually resulting from a blow to the
