How did Jackson approach the conflict of nationalism and sectionalism? He sided with nationalism in order to expand land for Manifest Destiny. Because he was known as the "common man's" president, Jackson sided with sectionalists to appease those that put him in office. He sided with sectionalism in order to advance the interests of states' needs. He understood both states' rights arguments of the West and the need for national empowerment.
