There is an equilibrium between having a decent income and happiness. If you are poor you will be unhappy because you cannot afford necessities, but if you are rich you will also not be happy because you do not get the dopamine rush you get when you have to work really hard to get something big. It's kind of like saving up as a kid for something like Pokemon. It isn't like buying a brand new car, but it still always felt really good to purchase something and enjoy something you worked for. When you are extremely wealthy you don't have to work as hard.
