Cyclops Activity- Book 9
In The Odyssey, Odysseus encounters Polyphemus, a Cyclops, and has to outwit him in order to survive. From Odysseus’ point of view he has been triumphant and even gloats to the Cyclops as he and his men are sailing away. Would the story be the same if it were told from the Cyclops point of view? Would Odysseus still be a hero? Would the Cyclops still be considered a monster?
In this activity you will re-tell the story of the Cyclops from Polyphemus’ point of view. Everything in the story must stay the same, however it will be told through Polyphemus’ eyes. Use your creativity to decide what the Cyclops is thinking and why he reacted the way he did to Odysseus.
Instructions:
- In one page (no more, no less) rewrite book 9 from Polyphemus’ point of view.
- You are writing in first person, as if YOU were the cyclops.
- Make sure you are writing MULITPLE paragraphs, not one big block of text!
- You must use the specific instances from the book, you cannot change the story line or make up any new ideas!
