What does the authors point of view mean?

What side he is telling the story from

To get the author's point of view in any piece of art, we should know his history, experiences, places he lived in are saw before, general situation in place and time the art was being created, author's state of mind etc. Sometimes a sentence said 200 years ago on the other hemisphere may have a totally different meaning than we may think of it here and now. Of course author should keep in mind that people who will analyze his piece of art will have a different perspective and different interpretation, but it's still his state of mind and his point of view. That's why it's important to us.
