Write a poem about something that you value in your life.

2. brainstorm: you may prewrite or use a graphic organizer to brainstorm ideas about something you hold as valuable.

3. once you have developed some ideas from your prewriting, begin drafting a poem.

your poem should:

● develop your theme (your overall idea) about what you value

● be written in lines and stanzas (groups of lines)

o lines do not have to use end punctuation every time

o stanzas must be clearly separated with spaces between

o do not number or “bullet” your stanzas

● have a logical flow

o the reader should be able to follow along easily

● use descriptive language

o your words create the mental picture for the reader – be creative!

● use repetition (repeat words and phrases for effect)
