Read the passage. The Liquid Transmitter
It was March 10, 1876. Alexander Graham Bell stared down at this latest device. It was called the liquid transmitter. The 29-year-old inventor
hoped it would not be called a failure, but the odds weren't good. He had been working on his device for a few years now, but he had not
succeeded yet. In the meantime, Samuel Morse's telegraph was extremely popular. What if the idea of sending voices was impossible?
Nevertheless, Bell went ahead with the plan. He stared at his liquid transmitter and said into it, "Mr. Watson, come here--I want you."
From down the hall, 22-year-old Thomas Watson stood wide-eyed over the device. He could not believe it! Was it possible? Had he imagined
it? Watson had heard every word-crisp and clear-come out of the liquid transmitter in front of him. This was one of the most amazing moments
of Watson's young life. He and Bell had actually Invented a device that could send the human voice across distances! The impossible had become
possible in an instant, and that meant that the possibilities were endless.
