PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS QUESTION PLEASE HELP The aim of opinion writing, or persuasive writing, is to have your reader agree with your opinion/ point of view by the time they finish reading your work. This is a chance to use your persuasive skills, and your writing expertise to convince them that your stance on a particular issue or topic is the right one. This can be anything from your favourite ice cream flavour (mint chocolate chip!) to the political party you support.

There are 3 main ways to frame your written arguments (or reasons) that will change your readers mind:

1. Logic: using reason or common sense is one way of helping to prove why your stance on a particular issue is the right one. For example, if I wanted to persuade you that mint chocolate chip was the best ice cream flavour (it definitely is), I might say that when you eat it, you feel refreshed, which is the exact feeling you want on a hot summer day. The logic of wanting to feel refreshed on a hot summer day is the logical argument I used to make my point.

2. Emotion: pulling at the heartstrings of your audience, or "hitting them in the feels" as the kids say, is another very effective way to persuade someone to agree with you. As an example, think of the ads that you see on TV for the SPCA, or to donate money to a cause from a developing country. Showing the sad faces of pets and children make the audience feel emotional; upset and guilty, so we pick up the phone to donate.

3. Expertise: being able to speak with authority/expertise on a specific topic, is the final way to form an argument. If you are someone who does a lot of gaming, and you are trying to tell me which video game is the best in terms of quality and overall experience, I would be inclined to believe you since you know a lot about the gaming community and would be able to give accurate information.

Now that we know more about the specific ways you can argue/persuade/defend your opinion on any given topic, let's try out our new skill!

Below are some questions where I will ask you to pick ONE of two things. Your task is to tell me which one is better, and WHY. For example, use persuasive writing to tell me why Coke is better than Pepsi. Once you have done this, reread your writing and tell me if your argument was one of logic, emotion, or expertise.

Example: Hot OR Cold? Cold is always better than hot. In cold weather, you can bundle up in cute, cozy clothes, and snuggle with your pets to keep warm. In hot weather, I feel yucky and grumpy. Here, I used emotional arguments.
