The immediate aims of such punishment are usually to halt the offense, prevent its recurrence and set an example for others.

Corporal Punishment is described as physical punishment, such as spanking, caning or flogging for bad behavior, in order to teach them a lesson. It can also mean punishment by imprisonment, or the death penalty.
