For the first exercise of the unit, your task is to make the speech awarding Harold Pinter the Nobel prize informal. This speech was given by famous writer, Per Wästberg, who was the chairman of the Nobel Committee. Re-write the speech using the casual register of Sarah Palin and see if you can manage to convey the same ideas in a different way. You may well find that some of the more complex ideas become lost, but sometimes the challenge with speech writing is precisely this: conveying complex ideas in a style that your whole audience will be able to understand and relate to.
