As there are four rings in von thunen model of land use the first ring is represented by agricultural activity that surrounds the city. Dairy farming is an intense activity that takes place near the city. As they are perishable products they have been grown nearby. Timber and firewood are found in the second zone. The third zone is of crops and includes grains and bread. As they can last much longer they are located outside or away from the city. Fourth ring is that of ranching that is located near the city as they can be transported easily.  Beyond the fourth ring is wilderness and is located far away from the city proper, the presence of agricultural activities beyond these zones would be unprofitable
