The advantages include but not limited to it being a cheap option in contrast to actually having to pay for sea defences. Another one is that it creates a salt marsh that ends up providing habitats for wildlife. Another advantage is that it can be a source for natural defence against flooding.

The few disadvantages I can remember are that land can be lost, due to reclamation by the sea. Due to the loss of land, landowners might need to be paid off and that can cost a tiny bit. I think, if we consider both the adv and disadvantages, then we can conclude that managed retreat has more advantages than disadvantages
