through the atmosphere.  by the sun, earth is always changing, and the earth has changed because of greenhouse gases.

3. What is the difference between the following heating processes?

a) insolation and terrestrial radiation =

insolation and Terrestrial Radiation. Insolation : It is the incoming solar radiation intercepted by the earth. It travels in short waves. Insolation involves only 51 units out of 100 units of solar radiation. Terrestrial Radiation : It is the earth’s radiation given back to atmosphere and space. It travels in long waves.

b) conduction and convection =

While conduction is the transfer of heat energy by direct contact, convection is the movement of heat by actual motion of matter; radiation is the transfer of energy with the help of electromagnetic waves. The matter is present around us, in three states, solid, liquid and gas.

The tilt of the Earth's axis causes the

difference in temperature between the Equator

and Earth’s polar regions. While the Equator

receives direct light from the sun at all times

of the year, the tilted axis prevents the poles

from receiving such prolonged exposure. The

tilt causes various other effects, such as the

extreme length of day and night at polar

locations.
