One day my friend wanted to go to the beach to watch the sunrise. The problem is that I live in a very violent city and at that time (4 am) it would be very dangerous to be on the beach alone and with nothing to protect us. I told her that watching the sunrise in that city would be a great irresponsibility on our part and that we should go home, since it was dangerous even the way to our homes (we were returning from a party). She tried to convince me, but I kept saying that we would be taking too much risks and at home we would be safe.

The refusal strategy I used is called "assertive refusal" since I confidently declined my friend's proposal and made clear why she couldn't convince me. In addition, I used body language to demonstrate that I would not change my mind.
