First off, there are many different types of friends. There are the friends that use you, ones that just want to get information out of you (the one that promises not to tell but does anyway), ones that are your true friends and will stay with you till the end no matter what and are like family.

Changes in traditional gender roles may affect friendship patterns because some people aren’t that fond of people who are “gay” or “trans” and may not be so friendly towards them, whereas other people don’t care about their sexual orientation and will befriend them regardless.
