The arguments for prohibition were that alcohol was addictive and dangerous. It killed many, wrecked the lives of many more, and destroyed families. The arguments against prohibition were pretty much what you hear today about the war on drugs. Protestants, Progressives, and women all spearheaded the drive to institute Prohibition. Prohibition led directly to the rise of organized crime.
