Why might farmers want to move to lands in Nebraska? Why might cattle ranchers want to ship their cattle on railroads?

The people of the Northern and Eastern states had a great demand for beef. Ranchers could get 10 times the amount of money per cow, about $40.

New settlers/ranchers of the west realized they could make a huge profit if they could figure out how to get their cattle across the country to the east. Cattle were worth $4 each in the west & $40 each in the east.
