What important step did the meiji government take when it modernized and industrialized japan

The political revolution of Japan which ended the Tokugawa Shogunate and the Edo period is known as the Meiji Restoration. The revolution put the country under the rule of emperor Mutsuhito which was also called emperor Meiji. The Meiji period lasted from 1868 till 1912 and is known for the modernization and westernization of Japan. For modernization all the feudal privileges were ended, a national army was formed in 1871, domains were abolished and prefectures were created, steps were taken to unify the monetary and tax systems, universal education was started in 1873 and a constitutional government was also created. Industries were also set up and later sold to private firms.
