Role: You work at a magazine and it is your job to create a cover for next month’s edition.
Audience: Your target audience is your boss who is the editor of the magazine. The audience is also the consumers that
will purchase the magazine.

Situation: You have been asked to create a cover for next month’s edition of a magazine about the Cold War. Your boss
wants this to be a magazine cover that will sell millions of copies. The layout you create must capture the attention of
consumers so they will choose it over other magazines about the Cold War.

Product: A magazine cover helps consumers decide if they want to purchase it. The image on the cover should capture
the consumer’s attention and the headlines featured on it should make the consumer want to read more about the topic.
Your magazine cover must provide information about the United States becoming a superpower and its role in the Cold
War. It should feature people, events, and wars that took place during that time in our history.

Standards
You must include
● The title of the magazine relates to the Cold War.
● A cover article image or picture: This should be the largest image on the cover and should relate to the topic of the
cover article. This image or picture should relate to the causes of the Cold War.
● A cover article headline: The cover story is the most important article in the magazine and the title should be
related to the causes of the Cold War. You must also explain to the editor why you chose that title.
● Two additional article headlines: These articles must relate important events or wars that took place during the
Cold War. You must explain to the editor why you chose the titles.
● Two article images or pictures: These are smaller than the cover article image and should be around the edges or
in the corners of the cover. They must relate to the two article headlines. One image could be a map
