One of the big conceptual issues from this module's readings relates to human nature in relation to self-interest. More specifically, are there natural limits to the pursuit of individual self interest? (Recall that Hobbes says there are not) What forces or mechanisms, other than an absolutist state, may have the capacity to limit or restrain individual self-interests?
