QUESTION 1 Mrs Tan was driving her new car when it knocked into Mr Chong who was crossing the road at a
traffic light pedestrian crossing. At the time of the accident, Mrs Tan was distracted by her
navigation system as it had suddenly re-routed which is why she did not notice Mr Chong
crossing the road. Mr Chong was also wrong as at that time the pedestrian signal light was red.
Due to the accident, Mr Chong suffered bruises and fractured his knee. Mr Chong sue Mrs Tan
for negligence and Mrs Tan seek your advice on the followings:
(a) Whether she was liable for negligence which caused Mr Chong's injury.
(12 Marks)
(b) Whether the fact that Mr Chong was crossing the road when the pedestrian signal light was
red can help to reduce her liability in negligence towards Mr Chong.
