How do i tell if an angle is supplementary or complementary?

It depends on what the angles add up to be. If they add up to be 90°, they are complementary. If they add up to be 180°, they are supplementary.

So, 90° = complementary

and 180° = supplementary

It's best to review it multiple times since it's easy to confuse them, or come up with your own little saying that'll work well depending on how you think you'd remember it best.
