2sites (site 1 and site 2) have growths of poplar trees. site 1 is rich and moist and site 2 is sandy and dry. those two sites are treated with 4 treatments (no treatment, fertilizer, irrigation, and fertilizer and irrigation).the weights of the poplar trees in kg are recorded and shown below.
no treatment fertilizer irrigation fertilizer and irrigation
site 1 .15 1.34 .23 2.03
(rich, moist) .02 .14 .04 .27
.16 .02 .34 .92
.37 .08 .16 1.07
.22 .08 .05 2.38
site 2 .60 1.16 .65 .22
1.11 .93 .08 2.13
.07 .3 .62 2.33
.07 .59 .01 1.74
.44 .17 .03 .12
we want to see if there is any (1) reaction between the factors (sites and treatments). also we want to see if there are any (2) effects of the sites and (3) effects of the treatments.
now use the calculator below.

enter 2 for the number of rows and 4 for the number of columns. now enter the data. read the directions for directly entering the data. hit calculate.
1) now look at the interaction effect (rxc) results. if the pvalue (p) is less than .05, then we can reject the null hypothesis h0: there is no interaction betweeaan the two factors.
2) if we do reject the null hypothesis of no interaction between factors, then we stop. if we do not reject the null hypothesis of no interaction between the two factors, then we proceed to test the next null hypothesis h0: there are no effects from the row factor (that is, the row means are equal).
3) also if we do reject the null hypothesis of no interaction between factors, test the null hypothesis h0: there are no effects from the column factor (that is the column means are equal).
using α = .05, answer the three steps above. the pvalues are listed under p on your calculator above.
