Momma is a strong, proud person who is not easily intimidated. she addresses mrs. flowers as an equal, even though mrs. flowers is clearly more refined and educated than she is. sometimes momma lacks an awareness of the feelings of those around her. even though she clearly loves marguerite and has conspired with mrs. flowers to marguerite speak again, momma is not aware that marguerite is embarrassed and mrs. flowers is uncomfortable when she makes marguerite take her dress off.
