Lex-Fuel, where gasoline is blended with ethanol, is becoming more and more popular. E85, a blend that consists of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline, is 80% cleaner-burning than gasoline alone, and it reduces our dependency on foreign oil. However, flex-fueled cars cost $1000 more than a conventional gasoline-fueled car, because of the modifications that are required to use a different fuel. Additionally, E85 gets 10% less miles per gallon than a conventional automobile, because ethanol has a lower energy density than gasoline. In other words, if a 100% gas-fueled car averages 45 miles per gallon, an equivalent car that uses E85 would averaged about 40.5 miles per gallon. If either car would be driven 90,000 miles before being traded in, what is the upper bound for how much the E85 fuel can cost (per gallon) to make the flex-fueled car as economically attractive as a conventional gasoline-fueled car

Consider a double atwood machine constructed as follows: a mass 4m is suspended from a string that passes over a massless pulley on frictionless bearings. the other end of this string supports a second similar pulley, over which passes a second string supporting a mass of 3m at one end and m at the other. using two suitable generalized coordinates, set up the lagrangian and use the lagrange equations to find the acceleration of the mass 4m when the system is released. explain why the top pulley rotates even though it carries equal weights on each side.

Asilver dollar is dropped from the top of a building that is 1324 feet tall. use the position function below for free-falling objects. s(t) = −16t2 + v0t + s0 (a) determine the position and velocity functions for the coin. s(t) = v(t) = (b) determine the average velocity on the interval [1, 2]. ft/s (c) find the instantaneous velocities when t = 1 second and t = 2 seconds. v(1) = ft/s v(2) = ft/s (d) find the time required for the coin to reach the ground level. (round your answer to three decimal places.) t = s (e) find the velocity of the coin at impact. (round your answer to three decimal places.) ft/s
