How does the motion of tectonic plates relate to continental drift

How the tectonic plate movement relates to the continental drift is tectonic plates often move a part and away from one another and lying a top of those plates (continental plates) are continents. The continents, in a way, ride on top of the continental plates and drift towards or apart from each other. In the time of Pangaea, all continents were all squished and packed together, but due to the movement of tectonic plates and the processes of the mid-Atlantic ridge (an exposed area in the lithosphere where new sea-floor is formed), what we know as the Atlantic ocean began to spread the super continent in half and apart. This area filled with water and became the Atlantic Ocean over the course of millions and millions of years. This movement of sea-floor spreading began to spread the continents of the Americas, Europe + Africa from each other, and the continental plate along too began to drift away from each other. Tectonic plates move with the help of convection currents occuring in the mantle.

I'm not sure of how much this has helped. I do take geography so we talked a lot about plate tectonics.
