An insulated sphere contains two hemispheres A and B. Each section contains a monatomic ideal gas. The sections are separated by an insulating perfectly flexible wall. Initially the pressure is the same on both sides (85 kPa) and the volumes are the same (1 m3). Heat is supplied to gas B by means of an electrical resistance (a hot wire) until the pressure increases by a factor of 3. If the perfectly flexible wall allows both gases to maintain equal pressures and the initial temperature of both gases is 273 K, compute: (10 points)

Abag of potato chips contains 2.00 l of air when it is sealed at sea level at a pressure of 1.00 atm and a temperature of 20.0 deg c. what will be the volume of the air in the bag if you take it with you, still sealed, to the mountains where the temperature is 7.00 deg c and atmospheric pressure is 70.0 kpa? assume that the bag behaves like a balloon and that the air in the bag is in thermal equilibrium with the outside air.

Atank has a shape of a cone with a radius at the top of 2 m and a height of 5 m. the tank also has a 1 m spout at the top of the tank. the tank is filled with water up to a height of 2 m. find the work needed to pump all the water out the top of the spout. (use 9.8 m/s2 for g and the fact that the density of water is 1000 kg/m3.)
