3. Some argue that the Peloponnesian War has important similarities to modern wars like WWI and WWII, and is therefore offers important lessons on the causes of war. Others argue that the Hellenic world in the 5th century B. C. was so unlike today that any such perceived lessons are misleading. Where do you fall in this debate? Support your answer by showing how one specific episode in the war that we covered in class helps us understand some modern conflict (be specific which conflict, and which element of that conflict), or—alternatively—how some episode from the war superficially appears to be similar to a modern conflict but differs in important ways.
