The DR is a microcosm of many of the climates that exist around the world. It contains rainforests, plains, beaches, rivers, mountains, highlands, valleys, and meadow landscapes. The small country shares Hispaniola, a Caribbean island, with Haiti. At the center of the DR is the country's most significant mountain range, Cordillera Central. The fact that this country is constantly exposed to moisture from the sea explains why so many different types of land are able to exist in such a small area. *
