According to your text, what is one way self-esteem impacts a person's relationships?

Well, according to what I have OBSERVED (you didn't really give the text), one way that self-esteem impacts a relationship is that it often makes the one with the lower amount feel as though they aren't worth the relationship with the other and distance themselves. For the one with higher self-esteem, they tend to be more confident with their choice of relationships. 

But hey, that's just from my observations, so yeah.
