What different tactics did feminist groups use to try to further the women's movement

Feminist groups and their tactics changed throughout US History, as did their tactics. Originally, the feminist movement grew out of other social movements such as the abolitionist and temperance movements that began before the civil war. Many of those heading these social movements were women, and as they became more vocal through the use of speeches, they began to utilize their growing influence towards women's rights. The most common way to further support for women's rights were speeches, such as the Seneca Falls meeting that began much of the movement. The progressive age that began in the 1920s lead to greater protests and many women used fashion statements to demonstrate their desire for equality. As a result, Women received the right to vote. The World Wars also aided in Women's rights, as many Women gained new jobs while the male population was off fighting. This was especially significant after WWII. The Feminine Mystique by Betty Friedan supported the growing feminist movements in the 1960s.
